When the software displays pairs of images to users, it chooses the pairs randomly. If you want to use the same pair of images consistently as a starting point, you can upload a set of images consisting only of those two images.
The instructions/information for the user can make a significant difference to the user's mental framing of the laddering; for instance, the viewpoint from which they choose their preference. We advise practising with the software, and reading about laddering, before deciding on the final wording.
